All correspondence is completely confidential and will only be accessed by a small group of Sex Talk with DELISH peer educators.

Tuesday, December 2nd
The Provost's Office presents Provost's Lecture Series--Policy Visions for a New Presidency from 12:00-1:30 pm in Von Canon C in the Bryan Center. Three Duke faculty members (Linda Burton, Peter Feaver, and Richard Newell) will discuss topics on the agenda of the new President.

Wednesday, December 3rd
The Duke Global Health Institute presents Tom Quinn: Infectious Diseases: Continuous Threats to Global Health from 4:30-6:00 pm at the John Hope Franklin Center 240. This series brings together a multi-disciplinary group of faculty and students from both the University and Duke Medicine to expand knowledge of global health. Dr. Tom Quinn is the director of the John Hopkins Center for Global Health.

NSBE will be having its final general body meeting of the semester at 6:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Learn about what NSBE has planned for next semester!

Thursday, December 4th
The LGBT Center presents "How to Talk with Your Health Care Provider about Your Sexuality, Gender Identity and Your Health: A Conversation with Dr. Harvey J. Makadon" at 5:45 pm in the LGBT Center in West Union. Dinner will be served, followed by a discussion concerning how to talk with your health care provider about your sexuality and your health.

BSA would like to commend Duke Football on their effort against Virginia Tech this past Saturday.

BSA Programs
BSA will have its third general body meeting, "Owning Duke: Race, Residence, and Resources" on Monday, November 24th at 7:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. We are often told to take ownership of our Duke experience. At this meeting, we will discuss what this actually means and how we are currently carrying this out. We will participate in small group discussions about engaging in OUR university and its resources. YOUR PARTICIPATION IS IMPORTANT IN ORDER TO GUIDE BSA'S WORK TO MAKE DUKE A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU.

BSA's Academic Resource Guide, compiled by BSA's Academic Affairs Division, is now available in the BSA Office. Make sure to stop by and pick up this valuable information about free resources at Duke to help you throughout your college career.

It's almost here!! BSA's third general body meeting will take place next Monday, November 24th at 7:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. The conversation at this meeting will be focused on Owning Duke--Race, Residence, and Resources. Be ready to provide your ideas about the following topics:
1. How are you attached to Duke? How are we, as BSA general and active members, taking advantage/ownership of the campus?
2. How are we a part of the conversation about New Campus? How are we demonstrating our ownership/belonging? What do we need from New Campus and how are we able to voice these needs?
3. What are the resources available to us at Duke? Are you taking advantage of them? Why or why not? What do you need?
We really look forward to hearing your input and ideas about these questions. 

Thanksgiving Dinner will take place on Sunday, November 23rd in the Mary Lou Williams. This event will be co-sponsored with Duke Africa and SOCA.  The time as well as RSVP details will be sent out in an e-mail early this week. Space will be limited so an RSVP will be necessary.

Voice your opinions at the Pratt School of Engineering Town Hall Meeting from 8:00-9:00 pm in Teer 203. Present questions and concerns to the Engineering Student Government (ESG) and the engineering deans.

The Omicron Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. presents Phenomenal Woman from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Upper East Side of Marketplace. View a short documentary entitled "Is Feminism Dead?," followed by an intimate discussion about the role of women in today's society with students and faculty members. 

Career Opportunities
Accenture Scholarship Program for Minorities was created to encourage minorities to pursue degrees in engineering, computer science, and a variety of academic programs related to information systems and decision or management sciences. Scholarship awards of $2500 will be awarded to outstanding students for undergraduate study. Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students in at least two semesters of the 2009-2010 school year. Attend Obama's America: The Future of Domestic Policy from 7:30-9:00 pm in Social Sciences 113. Hear two political science professors discuss domestic policy changes and expectations from the new administration. El Kilombo presents Cimarron Dance Night at Club 9 from 10:00 pm-2:00 am at Club 9 on Ninth Street. Salsa, Merengue, Reggaeton, and Bachata music will be playing all night and a free salsa lesson at 10:00 pm. Door proceeds will be donated to El Kilombo, an all-volunteer-run community center with programs such as ESL classes, child literacy, homework help, health check-ups, and more.

Attend Photography, Documentary, and the Making of Art: A Conversation with Barkley Hendricks from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Nasher Museum of Art. Photographs Tom Rankin and Alex Harris will lead a discussion about Hendricks' photographic work, which is extensive but less known.
 
Wednesday, November 19th
Duke Africa will be hosting a dinner conversation with Wole Soyinka at 6:00 pm in the Multicultural Center. Soyinka is arguably Africa's most distinguished playwright as well as one of the best in the entire world. An RSVP is required to attend this event. There is only room for 25 people so make sure to send your RSVP to dio@duke.edu ASAP. The RSVP should also include one question you would like to ask Soyinka in order to help guide the conversation.

The Tony award-winning musical "Movin' Out" will be performed from 8:00-10:00 pm in Page Audiotorium. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the Duke Box Office.

It's finally here. The third issue of Talking Drum will be available beginning Monday, November 3rd in the BSA Office. Read about a range of topics from the election to prominent civil rights leaders. 

BSA will be leading a discussion during the Mary Lou's Election Affection focusing on what Obama owes to black people on Tuesday, November 4th at 7:45 pm.

Monday, November 3rd
Join George Elliot Clarke in his discussion titled "African-Canadian Literature: What Makes It Unique" from 4:30-6:00 pm in Friedl 225. Clarke is a professor at the University of Toronto and has been instrumental in promoting the work of writers of African descent, especially those of Nova Scotia.

Tuesday, November 4th
The Mary Lou Williams Center presents Election Affection from 10:00 am-midnight in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Watch the 2008 Presidential Election coverage on the big screen and related films (The Great Debaters, Unbought and Unbossed, and Head of State) on the another. There will also be opportunities to participate in a series of conversations on hot election topics. Topics include: "The Faithful Left: Faith, Blackness, and the Liberal Agenda," "What Happens if Obama Wins/Loses: An Examination of the Possibilities," "Beyond Obama: The Opportunity of Other Black Politicians," and "What Does Obama Owe to Black People." 

The Public Policy Studies Major Union presents Election Night Returns Watch from 8:00 pm-12:00 am in Fleishman Commons in Sanford. Watch the Election Night returns with other Duke students and faculty.

Wednesday, November 5th
The Center for Documentary Studies and the Regulator Bookshop present Pitch Blackness book signing with author Hank Willis Thomas at 7:00 pm at the Center for Documentary Studies. Hank Willis Thomas gained wide recognition with his provocative series B(r)anded, which addressed the commodification of African American male identity by raising questions about visual culture and the power of logos. His first book, Pitch Blackness, includes selections from this series and several others. Willis Thomas will give a talk and show work from Pitch Blackness as well as sign books for sale at the event. 

Friday, November 7th
The Duke Human Rights Center presents "Freedom Fighters: Regime Change and U.S. Foreign Policy" in East Duke 204B. The following sessions will take place during this program
9:30-11:00 am: "Empire's Workshop: The New Deal to the New Right, Latin America to Iraq"
11:15 am-1:15 pm: "Openings and Closings: The United States and the Arab World in the 1970s"
2:30-4:30 pm: "Transforming Interventions: U.S. Policy in Colombia, 1998-2008"
4:45-5:30 pm: Closing discussion followed by a reception

Thursday, November 6th
Are you having trouble initiating your job search and need to reevaluate your current strategy? If so, attend the "Fannie Mitchell Expert in Residence: Strategies for Rethinking or Initiating Your Job Search with Jeff Constable" from 5:00-6:00 pm in Flowers 201. Constable will discuss how to develop new strategies and how to locate other avenues to find job opportunities. This workshop will be especially useful for those not interested in or having difficulty with the on-campus recruiting process

DukeEngage in Trinidad and Tobago
The program "Civic Engagement and Experiential  Learning to Promote Entrepreneurship and Economic Development" will take place from June 1st-August 4th. The Financial Aid Initiative Student Advisory Council hosts a Celebration on the Plaza from 5:00-7:00 pm on the BC Plaza. Free food, drinks, prizes and a DJ will be at the event. President Brodhead will be making a major announcement at 5:30 pm.

Sunday, November 9th
DUU presents Get Your Glo On: Ghostland Observatory with Flosstradamus from 8:00-11:00 pm. Ghostland Observatory is an electronic rock band known for their high-energy live performances and laser light shows. Tickets can be purchased for $16 at the Box Office or online at http://tickets.duke.edu.

Cultural Events
Awaaz 2008--The Office: Dunder Mumbai
Awaaz will take place at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 7th and Saturday, November 8th in Page Auditorium. The show will include singing and dancing acts including performances from Lasya, Raas, Chinese Folk Dance, Dhamaka, Speak of the Devil, and other Bollywood acts. American Teen
Freewater Presentations will be showing American Teen in Griffith Theater throughout the week. The movie will be showing from 7:00-8:00 pm and 9:30-10:30 pm on Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th in Griffith Theater. 

"Blood Done Sign My Name"
Professor Timothy Tyson's best-selling memoir, "Blood Done Sign My Name," has been adapted to a play and will be showing on Saturday, November 8th until Thursday, November 13th at 8:00 pm in Schaefer Theater. The play tells the story of 1970 Oxford, North Carolina and the story of the racially-motivated murder of a 23 year old black U.S. army veteran and the resulting social upheaval. The performance will include a talk-back session with Tim Tyson and two of the characters in the play. Tickets are $10 for students and can be purchased at the Box Office. 

El Greco to Velazquez: Art during the Reign of Philip III
This exhibit will be closing on Sunday, November 9th so make sure to visit the Nasher Museum of Art if you still haven't seen it! This exhibit is the first to display works from El Greco to Velazquez in context with other accomplished painters of that time.

Monday, November 3rd
The FVD Program and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies present the film "El Colombian Dream" at 7:00 pm in Griffith Theater. The film will be followed by a discussion with the director, Felipe Aljure.

Wednesday, November 5th
The Multicultural Center presents "Beyond the Birds and the Bees" from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Multicultural Center. This is your chance to talk about sexual health and communication in the college sense and real life with a group of interested peers with free food. This discussion is a part of "MCC Chats," a biweekly discussion series.
