Late Registration
BSA Division of Academic Affairs presents Late Registration: The Unofficial Guide to Academics at Duke from 7:30-9:00 pm in the Mary Lou. This will be a chance for students to hear about your peers' academic experiences at Duke and to receive advice about picking a major and choosing classes.  We would like to remind upperclassmen to send completed questionnaires to Kristina Broadie at kristina.broadie@duke.edu by midnight on Tuesday, February 24th.

The Undergraduate Judicial Board will be having an information session at 8:00 pm in Social Sciences 124. The Undergraduate Judicial Board is now seeking candidates who are committed to the principles of honesty, fairness, respect and accountability for the 2009-2010 academic school year. The Women's Center presents "What is Beautiful at Duke?" from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Women's Ceenter. This discussion group will ocver body image attitudes on campus and how they affect students.

Thursday, February 26th
Princeton Review will be hosting "Princeton Review Personal Statement Workshop for Law School Admissions" from 6:30-8:30 pm in Old Chemistry 116. This interactive workshop will be led by Duke Pre-Law Advisor, Dean Gerald Wilson, and Sonel Y. Shropshire, a nationally renowned law admissions guru. All attendees will receive a free copy of Princeton Review's Law School Essays that Made a Difference.

Hear Dr. Robin D.G. Kelley speak on "A Joyful Noise: Spirituality and Modern Jazz" at 7:00 pm in the Divinity School in Room 0016W. This lecture will discuss jazz and spirituality with multimedia images and audio of great jazz musicians.

Dukes and Duchesses will be having an information session from 7:30-8:30 pm in Social Sciences 139. This organization is charged with presenting the university to a wide variety of individuals and groups.

The discussion "Proud Shoes: Pauli Murray's Life and Legacy" will take place from 3:00-4:00 pm at the Durham County Public Library. Panelists will discuss the life and work of American civil rights activist, feminist, lawyer, author, college professor, ordained priest, and Durham native.

The Duke Divinity School presents "Celebrate Haiti: A Benefit Concert" from 6:30-8:30 pm at Asbury Temple United Methodist Church (201 S. Alston Ave. in Durham). The concert will feature a variety of artistic presentation including Haitian dance, music and poetry. Haitian coffee, vanilla and artwork will also be on sale. Beyu Caffe presents Coffeehouse Cool: A Night of Smooth Jazz and Poetry from 8:00-11:00 pm in the Mary Lou. Sit back, relax and unwind to great music but also be challenged by the intellectual stimulation of renowned poets while sipping on a great cup of java or a glass of wine.

The International Association presents "Pangaea: One World. One Party" from 9:00 pm-12:00 am in Perkins Library. This semi-formal event will provide an amazing cultural experience with scenes from the Serengeti Plains, Arabian oases, a European nightclub, and many others.

Blacks make up 13.5 percent of the U.S. population and are the largest minority group in 23 states.

Thurgood Marshall became the first Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice in 1967 and served until 1991.

BSA will be sponsoring an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Allen Building Takeover on Friday, February 13th at 4:00 pm in the Allen Building. Learn about the momentous takeover, which has impacted all aspects of campus life.

The North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP presents its Historic Thousands on Jones Street at 9:30 am at Chavis Park in Raleigh. This event is dedicated to the enactment of the 14-point agenda advocating anti-racism, anti-war, a better healthcare and education system, and a progressive agenda pushing the banner of justice forward by providing change in the state public policy.

The Nasher Museum of Art presents a discussion by Duke Professor Richard Powell on his new book "Cutting a Figure: Fashioning Black Portraiture" at 5:30 pm in the Nasher. A reception will follow the talk.

Friday, February 13th
Duke Africa and the International House present "Connecting Blackness Across the Atlantic: Making Sense of a Gullah Custom by Revisiting its West African Origin" from 6:00-8:00 pm in the International House at 2022 Campus Drive. Watch a screening of "The Language You Cry In" and engage in a short discussion will follow on how some trends within African American culture and tradition can be traced back to African roots. Refreshments will be provided.

The Asian Students Association (ASA) presents Lunar New Year 2009 at 7:30 pm in Page Auditorium. Come celebrate the Year of the Ox with catered dinner followed by a spectacular show of cultural acts. Saturday, February 7th
Duke China Care presents Duke China Care's 2nd Annual International Adoption Night: Red Threads from 6:00-8:30 pm in Von Canon in the Bryan Center. Support a great cause and broaden your awareness of international adoption while enjoying a buffet-style dinner, cultural performances, and a silent auction. The keynote speaker will be Cindy (Chamnella) Koenigsknecht, author of "The Waiting Child: How the Faith and Love of One Orphan Saved the Life of Another."

Yearbook Senior Portraits
Seniors who would like to appear in the 2009 yearbook , The Chanticleer, must attend a senior portrait session. Men should wear a jacket and tie and women should wear an appropriate blouse or sweater. Portraits will be taken from 12:00-8:00 pm from Monday, February 2nd t0 Friday, February 6th in between the Post Office and McDonalds in the Bryan Center. Students can also pick up free yearbooks for past years.

Monday, February 2nd
The Spring Student Activities Fair will take place from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Bryan Center Schaefer Mall. Learn about the variety of campus organizations.

Wednesday, February 4th
Enjoy late night jazz and snacks at Jazz at the Mary Lou from 9:30 pm-12:30 am in the Mary Lou Williams Center.

Thursday, February 5th
The Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presents "Black Is...Black Ain't" at 6:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. In celebration of Black History Month, Iota Mu will hold a viewing and discussion of "Black Is...Black Ain't," an awesome film about challenging our narrowing definitions of black identity.

Wednesday, February 4th
The Multicultural Center presents "Expression, Identity, Finding Your Voice: A Workshop with Dancer, Choreographer, Community Activist Leonard Cruz" from 5:00-7:00 pm in Von Canon A. Cruz will lead participants through movement, storytelling, journaling and theatre exercises to examine the storyline of their lives.

Friday, February 6th
The Center for Race Relations presents Common Ground. Applications are due 5:00 pm and can be found at http://www.duke.edu/web/racerelations/retreats/application/. Looking for a space to discuss the dynamics of race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and other identity factors at Duke and beyond? Common Ground is the place for you! This is a time of great personal reflection, sustained dialogues, community building, and one of Duke's most promising experiences for undergrads. This year's retreat will take place February 19th-February 22nd at Camp Caraway in Sophia, NC and is free for all participants.
