Wednesday, April 29th
The Center for Documentary Studies presents "Victory at Moncure Plywood: Personal Histories of Racial Injustice and Labor Relations in the South" at 6:30 pm in the Center for Documentary Studies Auditorium. The students in the class "Behind the Veil: Documenting African American Life in the Jim Crow South" will present the story of a recent strike at Moncure, North Carolina plywood factory as told by the workers themselves.

Friday, May 1st
The John Hope Franklin Center presents "Histories & Humanities at HBCUs: Embracing the Legacy of John Hope Franklin" from 9:00 am-5:00 pm in John Hope Franklin Center 240. This one-day symposium and workshop will bring together students, faculty and administrators from Duke and area HBCUs to explore ways of creating institutional collaborations around the arts and the humanities, and across older historical divisions in the region and beyond.

Saturday, April 25th
Duke NSBE is co-sponsoring A Walk for Education throughout the day at 2515 Apex Highway in Durham. Volunteers will walk door-to-door in predominantly Black communities, distributing information about area college admissions, vocational schools, GED, SAT/ACT, NSBE resources and financial aid. Registration begins at 7:30 am with groups starting to walk at 9:00 am.

A screening of "Darius Goes West" will take place from 7:00-9:00 pm in White Lecture Hall. This documentary tells the story of a 15 year old boy who travels across the country with his friends to get MTV's "Pimp My Ride" to pimp out his wheelchair.

The Theater Studies Department presents a Shakespeare Workshop from 8:00-9:00 pm in Sheafer Theater in the BC. Enjoy this hour of scenes, monologues and songs performed in a bold and sexy way.

InMotion Dance Group presents InMotion: A Repertory Group of Dance Black Showcase from 8:00-9:30 pm Reynolds Theater in the BC. Come release some stress while enjoying a dance production. Elizabeth Alexander, a poet, essayist, playwright and Professor of African American Studies at Yale, will be reading from 5:30-7:30 pm in Nasher. Alexander read her poem during the 2009 Inauguration of President Obama.

The Kenan Institute for Ethics presents "Adventures in Guyland" from 3:00-4:30 pm in White Lecture Hall. Author Michael Kimmel will discuss his book "Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men," a book discussing the process of achieving modern manhood. 

The Multicultural Center presents "Financial Wellness" from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Multicultural Center. This interactive session will discuss how to set goals for financial success. Questions involving repayment of student loans, credit card debt, budgeting and managing expenses will be address during this session.  RSVP to vcw@duke.edu.

The Duke Investment Club presents "Internships 101: Preparing for Work in Finance" from 7:00-8:00 pm in Bostock 023 (Library Classroom). This will be your chance to learn about the financial aspects of Microsoft Excel, work with financial equations and models in Excel and understand shortcuts, tips, and tricks for using the program.

The Duke Center for Multicultural Affairs presents the 9th Annual Unity through Diversity Forum with Robin D.G. Kelley at 6:00 pm in Divinity School Room 016. Join fellow students, staff, and community members to critically explore the implications of the shift of discourses from anti-racism and liberatory politics to discourses of multiculturalism and diversity.

Morgan Stanley Summer Internship
Morgan Stanley is looking for current juniors to participate in their Richard B. Fisher Scholars Program for GWMG. This will provide an opportunity for outstanding underrepresented minority students with a financial award for exceptional academic achievement, a summer internship with Morgan Stanley and a meaningful experience in the financial services industry. A Hunger Banquet will take place from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Old Trinity Room in West Union. Each participant will get a ticket for a meal with the meal representing the amount of food people worldwide have. A $5 donation is requested.

The Career Center presents "Expert in Residence: Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program and Careers in Health Care with Dr. Andy Baldwin" from 6:00-7:00 pm in Flowers 201. Listen to Dr. Andy Baldwin share his story and provide advice and information related to careers in health care. Dr. Baldwin is an Undersea Medical Officer, Navy diver and non-profit founder.

DefMo presents Crea7ion: DefMo Showcase 2009 from 7:30-9:45 pm in Page Auditorium. This is one of the most diverse student dance showcases on campus and will feature Duke Dhamaka, Duke Chinese Dance Troupe, The Pitchforks, On Tap, and Sabrosura.

Award-winning video producer Bruce Orenstein presents Strategic Video for Social Justice? at 7:00 pm in 216 Friedl Building on East Campus. Orenstein's work has been used by community groups to advocate for living wage legislation, tenants' rights, affordable housing, youth services, health care and low-income workers.

Wednesday, April 8th
The John Hope Franklin Center presents "Let Me Live in the Heights of My Time: Black Colleges and the Legacy of Idealism and Activism in Education" from 12:00-1:00 pm in Room 240 of the John Hope Franklin Center. Speakers will discuss the topic of black student activism and the role of HBCUs in shaping national politics. Lunch will be provided.


DELISH presents "Ask the Sexperts" from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Multicultural Center. This will be a panel discussion with Q&A regarding sexual health, sex, relationships, STIs, etc. Questions will be written anonymously on cards at the event and posed by a facilitator to the panel. Wednesday, April 8th: Jazz at the Mary Lou will take place from 9:30 pm-12:00 am in the Mary Lou Williams Center.

Thursday, April 9th: Senior Prom will take place from 8:00 pm-12:00 am in the IM Building. Wear cheesy prom attire for this 80s inspired dance for seniors only.

Friday, April 10th: Dean's Wine and Cheese Reception will take place from 5:30-7:00 pm in Scharf Hall. This event is only for those seniors who have donated.
