Monday, March 1

Interested in finding a summer internship but don't know where to start? Come to the Career Center's new Internship Spotlight Series at 5:00pm in the Center for LGBT Life 2 West Union Building to hear students speak about their past summer experiences and learn about exciting internship possibilities! Each week a new industry will be highlighted - from technology to human rights and everything in between. The series will be an informal opportunity to talk personally to students who have recently done internships in various fields, working for IBM and ABC, non-profit organizations and top universities. Events are open to all undergraduates, and there is no need to sign-up beforehand.


Tuesday, March 2

The Global Semester Abroad (GSA): India/China program will hold an information meeting for prospective undergraduates interested in spending the spring 2011 semester with Duke's newest and most ambitious study abroad program. The session will be held in Allen 103 from 5:00-6:00pm. Under the guidance of Duke professors Anirudh Krishna (India) and Ralph Litzinger (China), the GSA will offer four Duke courses in development, environment, and global health in two of the world's fastest growing economies. Courses will count towards multiple major, minor, certificate, and curricular requirements. Full program details can be found at . The spring 2011 application deadline is April 16, 2010.

Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture and the Minority Association of Pre Health Studies (MAPS) is hosting Spotlight on Health: Osteopathic Health w/ Dr. Priscilla Tu from 3:00-5:00pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Increase knowledge in your field of interest, ask questions, and build a network with professionals across medical disciplines. Show up & join the conversation! During this session discussions will be held about the field of Osteopathic Health with our guest Dr. Priscilla Tu of Duke University's Department of Community & Family Medicine.


The Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Alpha Alpha Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. are hosting “Business Think Tank,” a seminar on entrepreneurship, at 7:00pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. The organizations will be joined by guest speaker Delton DeVose, a local businessman and charter member of the Alpha Alpha Chi Chapter. This event will provide an opportunity for students to foster their economic expertise. Business casual attire is preferred.

Friday, March 5

The Duke Career Center is offering a unique chance for Duke First-Year undergrads to get their resumes reviewed, ask a quick question (or two), or to just touch base with a Career Counselor on their "home turf." First-Year Fridays will occur on the following dates during the spring semester: Feb. 26, Mar. 5, Mar. 26, Apr. 2, Apr. 9, Apr. 16 & Apr. 23 in the East Union Building (South Balcony, 2nd Floor). Drop-in hours are available to all students Monday-Thursday 2:00-5:00pm and Fridays 2:00-4:00pm at the Career Center in Smith Warehouse Building (Bay 5, 2nd Floor).

The Raleigh-Durham Tuskeegee Alumni Club presents Tuskeegee University

Tuesday, March 2

Interested in getting to know your fellow undergraduates over dinner in a spontaneous atmosphere? The Duke University Student Dining Advisory Committee (DUSDAC) will be hosting "Diversity Dinners" (it's our working title) that will bring together 10 students with diverse backgrounds for an engaging meal. Apart from eating an appetizing meal, students will get the opportunity to talk over some controversial, deep, or taboo issues -- some Duke-specific -- in an informal atmosphere. The first diversity dinner will run from 6:00-7:30pm and will be held the Law School and catered by the Refectory. More instructions/directions will be emailed later, but please be sure the time and date work for you. We are trying to make sure the dinner is either free or discounted. If we are unable to get funding in time, you have the option of dropping out.

This free session will review recommendations for designing a cardiovascular conditioning and strength training program and teach you proper form on the weight training machines. Stacy Nadeau, one of the women who appeared on a Times Square Billboard dressed only in her underwear promoting "Real Women With Real Curves" will deliver her keynote speech - Embracing Real Beauty. Stacy speaks to men and women about the role they can each play in incrementally changing the message that women receive about body image. The event will be held from 7:30-9:00pm in Bryan Center Von Canon Room C.


Tuesday, March 2

Do I Look Fat? This documentary is about gay males and eating disorders and will be shown at the LGBT Center from 7:00-8:30pm and hosted by Paula Scatoloni, MSW, LCSW and Mike McFarland of CAPS.


Wednesday, March 3

BEAUTY MARK Body Image and The Race to Perfection, a film by former Champion Triathlete Diane Israel, examines American culture's toxic emphasis on thinness, beauty, and physical perfection. The film lends context to Israel's personal odyssey with fascinating insights from athletes, body builders, fashion models, and inner-city teens, as well as prominent cultural critics and authors such as Eve Ensler, Paul Campos, and Naomi Wolf. The movie will be shown from 7:00-8:00pm in Soc/Psych 130.


Thursday, March 4

Body Image disorders do not discriminate based on gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Join ESTEEM and the Healthy Devils in celebrating their last event for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. The Blue Moon Dance Company, the premier tribal style belly dance troupe of North Carolina's Triangle region, will be at the LGBT Center from 8:00pm - 9:30pm. Blue Moon will illustrate how the beauty, joy and grace of this ancient dance form has the power to transform lives by fostering positive self image, self acceptance and a strong sense of community and connectedness to something so old and yet so modern.
