BSA Announcements
The Black Student Alliance would like to ask everyone who received at t-shirt at 007: On a Mission for Darfur to wear their t-shirt on Monday, November 12th in order to raise awareneses about past and current world crises for Genocide Awareness Week.

Genocide Awareness Week will have fundraisers of t-shirt sales, bracelets and more with a coalition of Discover Worlds, Duke Chapel, BSA, Duke Africa, Muslim Students Association, Human Rights Coalition, Community Service Center, Amnesty International, International Students Association and more.

The Black Student Alliance will be hosting "A Family Affair" on Sunday, November 18th at 5:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Join your Duke family for good food and fellowship, as the students of BSA, SOCA, and Duke Africa. Various dishes will provide a look into the cultures of the many family tables represented. Stay around for football on the big screen, activities, and fellowship throughout the meal. A $5 cash or flex point donation is requested to benefit community members and allow them to enjoy their holiday without struggle. SPACE IS LIMITED! Applications for the two co-chairs of the Undergraduate Committee on Gender are now online at
http://dsg.duke.edu. A description of the nature of the position is also available. The applications are due Monday, November 12th. This would be a substantial commitment, but it's a chance to leave a mark on Duke long after we're all gone.

Malcom Riley, business counselor, and Scott Mofield, internship coordinator, will be leading a group advising session for sophomores and juniors interested in business to talk about what resources students should be looking at and how to go about conducting an effective internship search on Wednesday, November 14th from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. "Davis Projects for Peaces" is an opportunity for undergraduates to receive funding for innovative grassroots project to be implemented this coming summer. If you have an exciting, worthy project for which you would like generousfunding in summer 2008, please submit an electronic 3-page application to nkeul@duke.edu by Friday, December 7. The application should include a 2-page proposal and a 1-page budget. An ad hoc nomination committee will evaluate the proposals and submit to the Davis UWC Scholarship Program one Duke nominee and one or two alternates by February 15. The American Association of Advertising Agencies' (AAAA) Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) offers students of color 10-week paid summer internships at AAAA member advertising agencies across the country. Admissions is seeking a hosting co-coordinator to recruit, train, and connect current first-year student hosts with prospective, admitted students. Primary job responsibilities include recruiting first-year students to host students overnight, matching first-year and prospective students, and serving as a resource for prospective students and their families. Monday, November 12
The Omicron Nu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. presents Founder's Day. The chapter will be tabling on the Plaza for Operation BigBookBag school supplies drive from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. They will be collecting bookbags, notebooks, writing and drawing paper, pencils and pens, dictionaries, rulers, glue, construction paper, textbooks, typewriters, computers and many other needed school items for disadvantaged students in Jamaica.

Tuesday, November 13
"Two Flawed to Fix" at 7:00 pm in White Lecture Hall, East Campus. Come see "Two Flawed to Fix," the second film of the Human Rights Film Festival, going on every Tuesday in the month of November. The Illinois death penalty emphasizes the presence of human rights abuses in our nation.

The Omicron Nu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the Alpha Alpha Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. presents "Family Feud" at 7:22 pm in Social Sciences, Room 136. Last year the even classes (2008 & 2010) crushed the odd classes, will there be repeat victory? Come out and rep your class and play on the family feud team, or simply cheer from the audience!

Duke Students for Barack Obama Meeting at 8:00 pm in Meeting Room B, Bryan Center. We will be discussing various topics and preparing for some events that are taking place over the last few weeks of the semester. This is the last meeting of the calendar year, so please make every effort to attend. Obama 2008 STICKERS, WINDOW SIGNS, and WRISTBANDS are finally available and will be given out for free at the meeting.

Simon Deng Speech at 7:00 pm in Page Auditorium. Simon Deng, a former child slave of Sudan will be talking about his experiences in Sudan and what is going on now. Mr. Deng has spoken in front of the United Nations, Bush Administration and more and it should be a very powerful speech!

Speed Debate - the New Way to Talk Politics at 7:30 pm in Carr 137. Come and meet with other Duke students to discuss current issues. Got an opinion on the Presidential race? Waterboarding? SCHIP? Anything else? Share them with your fellow students. If you're not set in your opinions, come anyway! Hear the arguments and make your own decisions. Free food and fun for all! Sponsored by the Duke Political Union, College Republicans, and Duke Democrats.

Jazz at the Mary Lou at 9:30 pm in the Julian Abele Hall, Mary Lou Williams Center. Enjoy live performances by local musicians as well as Duke music students, with special guest artists all brought together by John Brown, Director of the Duke Jazz Studies Program. Light hors d'oeuvres and liquid refreshment will be provided with the option to enjoy late night fare and drinks in the Faculty Commons provided by Sage & Swift.

Its eleven "exhibits" undermine black stereotypes old and new, and return to the facts of what being black means. "

United in Praise Fall Concert at 6:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church (Behind the Biddle Building on East Campus). Come out and praise with the gospel choir, the Praise Dance Ministry, and other special guests! Duke's Dance Department presents "November Dances" at 8:00 pm in Reynolds Theater, Bryan Center. Come see the Duke Dance Department's fall production! Save the Date!
The Duke Student National Medical Association (SNMA) will be hosting its Annual Fundraising Silent Auction at the Mary Lou Center for Black Culture on Saturday, December 1st at 7:00 pm. Entrance is $5 and the attire is elegantly casual. Buffet style meal and entertainment will be provided. Funds will be used to support the annual activities of the SNMA - medical trips to Congo, Gambia and Dominican Republic, merit scholarships to deserving high school students starting college, mentorship of elementary school students interested in medicine, advising of pre-medical students, the annual Martin Luther King Banquet, etc. If you're free come on out, bring a friend and get started on your Christmas list!
