Make sure you pick up a copy of the Homecoming Edition of *Talking Drum* in the Mary Lou Williams Center and the BSA office in OSAF starting October 11!

The Social Committee is sponsoring a Homecoming BBQ on Saturday, October 13 at 3:30 pm on Main Quad, West Campus. Come celebrate Homecoming with the Duke Football team! There will be food, music, and games...as well as t-shirts for the first 500 people to arrive!

Alumni and Graduate Affairs (in conjunction with Duke Alumni Association) is hosting the BSA/DUBAC Mixer 2007 on Friday, October 12 from 4-7 pm on the Bryan Center Walkway (the patio behind the Gothic Bookstore). Come out and enjoy free food and drinks and an opportunity to connect with alumni!

*Special* Jazz at the Mary Lou at 8:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Experience the smooth sounds of jazz legend Elmer Gibson joined by artists, Ron Free (Mary Lou Williams' former drummer), Pee Wee Moore, and Herman Bass. Be there for their live recording and stick around for a Thelonius Monk birthday party and a special jam session with the above artists and Paul Jeffrey, Monk's sideman from 1970-1972.

Thursday, October 11
Conversation with Osha Gray Davidson (author of "The Best of Enemies", Duke Summer Reading Program) and Ann Atwater at 6:00 pm in Griffith Film Theater, Bryan Center. The discussion will be followed by *Best Fest*, a reception and celebration at 7:00 pm in Perkins Library, featuring music by Cool John Ferguson and light refreshments. Please come out for what promises to be a delightful evening of lively conversation, wonderful food, and great music!

Friday, October 12
BSA/DUBAC Mixer at 4:00 pm on the Bryan Center walkway (patio behind the Gothic Bookstore). Come out and enjoy free food and drinks while connecting/networking with alumni!

Conversation with Stanley Crouch at 4:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Come to an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss contemporary issues in music and the Black experience. Presented with the Department of Music and AAAS.

"A Radical Rainbow Coalition": Event with Former Black Panther and Young Lords Member, Denise Oliver-Velez at 5:30 pm in White Lecture Hall, East Campus. Denise will be giving a lecture as part of the Mutlicultural Center's "Identities in Movement" series, which aims to offer insights into the interrelation of race, class, gender, and sexuality in the context of social change. Denise will assist us in understanding "identity" within the context of community struggles for justice, democracy, and dignity.

NPHC Annual Homecoming Step-Show Competition at 8:00 pm in Page Auditorium. Come early to get seats and be ready to see stepping like you've never seen before! Doors open at 7:30 pm, show starts at 8:00 pm. Tickets available at the Box Office (919.684.4444). Tickets are $10 before, $12 at the door. Step-Show After Party in the Great Hall at 10:00 pm. Discount with ticket stubs before 11:00 pm.

Round Midnight Jazz at 10:30 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Late night jazz and a light buffet to wind down from the evening and get ready for Saturday. Current students and alumni welcome!

Saturday, October 13
BSA Homecoming BBQ at 3:30 pm on Main Quad, West Campus. Come celebrate Homecoming with the Duke football team! There will be food, music, and games...as well as t-shirts for the first 500 people to arrive!

President's Homecoming Dance at 9:30 pm in Wilson Gym. Last year's dance was a huge success, with more than 2,500 guests. Spectacular music, food, lighting, and guests will transform Wilson Gym into the best dance and dinner club in the East. Attire: festive, from business casual to cocktail.

D.L. Hughley's "Unapologetic" Tour on Saturday, October 13 at 8:00 pm at the Carolina Theatre, 309 W. Morgan St. This actor and comedian is one of the most popular stand-up acts on the road today. From appearances in the hit film "Original Kings of Comedy" and NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," to his late-night Comedy Central show "Weekends at the DL" and BET's "S.O.B.," Hughley does it all.
