The Public Affairs Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee are sponsoring events this week. See below for more details!

We would like to encourage all interested students to attend Senator Barack Obama's Fundraising event, "North Carolina Countdown to Change" at North Carolina Central University this Thursday, November 1 at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium. Doors open at 3:00 pm. (Time and Location Change). Passes to the event can be reserved online at http://my.barackobama.com/C2CNC.

Attention BSA General Body! BSA and the Career Center still want to hear from you! We want to know what's working and what's not in regards to preparing you for life beyond Duke. Campus Announcements
OSAF's Duke Destinations has two great trips planned for the following week:

*A trip to see The Regina Carter Quintet: Stewart Theatre on Saturday, November 3rd at 8:00 pm at North Carolina State University. Charter Bus will depart from West Campus bus stop at 6:30 pm. Ticket are $10 at the Duke University Box Office in the Bryan Center. Savings: $20 off the regular ticket price + gas.

*A trip to the Carolina Hurricanes v. Washington Capitals NHL game is also planned for Monday, November 5th at 7:00 pm. Charter Bus will depart from West Campus bus stop at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $10 at the Duke University Box Office in the Bryan Center. Savings: $80 off the regular ticket price + gas + parking.

The American Association of Advertising Agencies' (AAAA) Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) offers students of color 10-week paid summer internships at AAAA member advertising agencies across the country. Last year, 150 interns were accepted. For more information, visit

Not getting enough work done in your room?! Find the library too crowded?! We've got the perfect solution! The Africana Mentoring Program Presents: Study Nights at the Mary Lou! It will take place EVERY Monday night from 8-11pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture. There will be both a group work space and a quiet study area, so please come prepared to work hard! All students are welcome, you do not have to be a part of AMP to take advantage of this great study opportunity, so please spread the word about this event to all friends!

The Following Monk series presents a showing of "A Great Day in Harlem" by Jean Bach at 8:00 pm in Griffith Film Theater. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, October 30
The Multicultural Center presents "Identities in Movement" series presents "Diversity without Domination," a lecture by Professor Michael Hardt at 5:30 pm in the Multicultural Center, Bryan Center. How can a politics of liberation practice diversity in a context where the forms of domination it confronts also rest fundamentally on diversity? Hardt will explore this question and highlight movements in Bolivia that simultaneously address race and class differences. Dinner will be provided, please RSVP to

BSA Decision 2008: Presidential Debate Watch Party at 9:00 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Don't Vote? Don't Know? Don't Complain. Come watch the fourth official Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate for the 2008 election cycleand learn from the Democratic candidates about their ideas for how the country willbe run if they get elected in 2008. Light Refreshments will be served.

Wednesday, October 31
The Black Seminarians' Union presents a discussion entitled "Not in Our Image: Redeeming Women of Color from Violence and Restoring the Imago Dei" at 12:20 pm in 0015 Westbrook (Divinity School). In solardity with the national 'Be Bold, Be Brave' Campaign, we will discuss the silencing of women of color in our society as well as the social and theological forces that contribute to that silencing.



The Following Monk series presents a showing of "Thelonious Monk: Straight No Chaser" by Director Charlotte Zwerin at 8:00 pm in Griffith Film Theater. This event is free and open to the public.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem presents Melvin Van Peebles' "Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death" at 8:00 pm in Reynolds Theater, Bryan Center. This revival of Van Peebles' controversial experiment superimposes poetic form onto a story of junkies and whores, staging the gusty violence of revolutionary art. Student Tickets are $5 ($20, $26 for non-students) and may be purchased through the Duke University Box Office.

The Lambda Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. presents "Get Your Mind Right and Your Body Tight" at 9:00 am, at Cox Mountain Tail (meet at Brodie Gym, East Campus). Join us as we maintain a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness by completing the Cox Mountain Trail. Duke Baha'i Club presents "Food for the Soul: Prayer and Meditation" at 6:00 pm in the Multicultural Center, Bryan Center. Want to join female peers for leadership discussion and training? Then consider the WILD Conference on Saturday, November 10 in Raleigh, NC. The Women In Leadership Development (WILD) Conference takes place each fall and is designed to give women students the opportunity to explore and strengthen their leadership skills while celebrating the unique abilitiesthey have as women. The Fall 2007 conference will be hosted by Peace College in Raleigh.
