We would like to congratulate Thaddeus Lewis and Vinny Rey for being awarded the honors of ACC Player of the Week for games between September 11th-13th and freshman Johnny Williams for being named ACC Rookie of the Week for games between September 4th-6th.

We would also like to congratulate Rachel Moss for winning her 3rd ACC Volleyball Player of the Week on September 8th and Jourdan Norman for being named Charleston Invitational MVP.

BSA Programs
The Black Student Alliance will be having its FIRST GENERAL BODY MEETING of the school year on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23rd at 7:00 P.M. in SOCIAL SCIENCES 139!! Find out about upcoming plans for the year, meet your new executive committee, and hear about plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Do you love to write and take pictures? If so, then come out to the Talking Drum Magazine interest meeting on Wednesday, September 24th at 7:30 pm in the BSA office. Monday, September 22nd
The Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy presents Sanford Lecture: Thomas Friedman from 5:30-7:00 pm.  New York Times columnist and Pulitizer-Prize winning author Thomas Friedman delivers the 2008 Terry Sanford Distinguished Lecture. Friedman will discuss his new book Hot, Flat and Crowded on clean energy technology breakthroughs needed to address the energy and climate. Wednesday, September 24th
NSBE will be having an EGR53L Study Session from 7:00-10:00 pm in West Duke 101. Members will be on hand to answer questions and review old tests to help students prepare for the upcoming EGR53 test. Free pizza and soda will be provided.

Friday, September 26th
Be an informed voter and watch the presidential debates.  Today's debate at the University of Mississippi will focus on each candidate's proposed domestic policy.  REMEMBER TO REGISTER TO VOTE AND/OR GET YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT!!!!

Talk to Me: Open Office Hours with MLWC Director Chandra Guinn
Ms. Guinn will be holding weekly office hours on Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the BSA office, Wednesdays at 5:00 pm in the Mary Lou, and Thursdays at 3:00 pm in 208 Crowell (2nd floor of Crowell Building on East Campus). No appointment necessary.

Baldwin Scholars Information Session
The Baldwin Scholars are having three information sessions on Thursday, September 25th from 7:00-8:00 pm in Blackwell Commons, from 8:00-9:00 pm in Bell Tower 113, and from 9:00-10:00 pm in GA Down Under. Learn about the Baldwin Scholars program for undergraduate women and leadership.

4th Annual National Black Pre-Law Admissions and Preparation Conference and Law Fair 2008
Start Fall Break off right by learning something about becoming a lawyer at this conference on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11 at the University of Houston University Center. This event is FREE and open to public.

The Career Center presents Duke Career Center Financial Services Industry Night from 8:00-9:15 pm in Von Canon C in the Bryan Center. "La Gala de Oro"
The Nasher Student Advisory Board, Mi Gente, and Duke Univesity Union Special Projects Committee present "La Gala de Oro" on Wednesday, September 24th from 8:00 pm-12:00 am at the Nasher Museum of Art. Dress to impress and celebrate the Golden Age of Spain with this elegant Duke student event. Duke undergraduate students, graduate students, and professional students are invited to an evening filled with Spanish-themed refreshments and live entertainment. A limited number of passes for free entry to the exhibition will be made available to students.

North Carolina Pride Festival and Parade
The Center for LGBT Life presents North Carolina's largest LGBT pride celebration on Saturday, September 27th from 10:00 am-2:00 pm on East Campus Main Quad. The parade begins at 1:00 pm.
 
Cultural Events
Monday, September 22nd
Students of the Caribbean Association (SOCA) will be having its first general body meeting at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room B of the OSAF office in the Bryan Center. Come and hear about SOCA's events for the year and meet the rest of the organization. Food, music, and fun will be provided.

Friday, September 26th
The Mary Lou Williams Center presents Art and Soul at 9:30 pm in the Mary Lou. Relax while enjoying spoken word, dance and neo-soul music. Light refreshments will be provided.

MLWC Black Artist Collective Database
Are you a filmmaker/videographer, photographer, visual/fine artist, writer, dancer, actor/actress, musician, poet, and/or a vocalist? If so, join the MLWC Black Artist Collective Database. This artist database will serve as a resource to the Mary Lou, campus community and Black affinity groups.  This is a great opportunity to develop and showcase your talent so DON'T BE SHY!!  To be added to this database, please send your name, class, e-mail address, telephone number, and specialty to mlw@studentaffairs.duke.edu.

"El Greco to Velazquez: Art during the Reign of Philip III"
This exhibition will be held at the Nasher Museum of Art until November 9th. This exhibit is the first to display works from El Greco and Velazquez in context with other accomplished painters of their time.

"Charles Ethan Porter: African-American Still Life Artist"
This exhibition will be held in the North Carolina Central University Art Museum on Lawson Street until November 2nd. Over 50 of Porter's still life oil paintings will be on display. For more information, please call 919.530.6211.

Athletics
Saturday, September 27th
Come support Duke football as they play Virginia today. Festivities begin at 9:00 am with breakfast and other activities on Main Quad on West Campus.  Make your way to Wallace Wade Stadium at 12:00 pm to watch the guys compete in their fourth game of the season!!!
