BSA Programs
On Wednesday, October 22nd, BSA and DUU are bringing Harold Ford Jr. and Michael Steele to campus for a debate-style discussion. Ford Jr. is the chair of the Democratic Leadership Conference and Steele chaired this year's Republican National Convention. We are looking for questions to pose to both speakers during this debate.  If you have any relevant questions, please send them to DukeBSAPresident@gmail.com

Interested in academics at Duke?? Freshmen wanting to apply for the position of apprentice to the Director of Academic Affairs should send an e-mail to DukeBSAAcademicAffairs@gmail.com or ktb9@duke.edu.  This e-mail should include a one-paragraph statement outlining their interests in the division as well as relevant skills necessary for success in this position. BSA Membership: In case you missed the general body meeting last week, BSA would like to remind everybody to become official members. Active members are required to submit a BSA Active Membership application, sign up on the BSA DukeGroups site (http://osaf.studentaffairs.duke.edu/studentorgs/DukeGroups.html), and to attend four BSA events with one of these events being a general body meeting or to work on a BSA committee.

Be an informed voter. The Vice Presidential debates between Democrat Joe Biden and Republican Sarah Palin will take place at 9:00 pm. DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER TO VOTE AND/OR APPLY FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT!!!

Friday, October 3rd
Duke's Presidential and University Committees, formed by President Brodhead and other members of the administration, are critical to informing University policy. Students on these committees have significant influence and are responsible for representing the concerns of all undergraduates. Seven committees currently require undergraduate representation. WISER Week 2008
Support the Women's Institute for Secondary Education and Research (WISER) in Muhuru Bay, Kenya. 10 girls, 10 WISER scholarships, 10 futures. For more information, visit http://wisergirls.org.  
Monday, September 29th: WISER hosts a WISER Introduction Meeting from 4:30-5:30 pm in Social Sciences 139. Learn more about WISER and their work in Muhuru Bay, Kenya.
Tuesday, September 20th: WISER hosts liveWISER Benefit Concert from 7:00-9:00 pm in Page Auditorium. Join the premier performance groups on campus for a live show in Page Auditorium.  Tickets can be purchased from $5 on the Bryan Center Plaza or at the DU Box Office. Ticket sales will directly fund girls' scholarships.
Wednesday, October 1st: WISER hosts WISER Lunch on the Plaza from 11:00 am-2:00 pm on the Bryan Center Plaza. Enjoy free authentic Kenyan food from Palace International and live music. Donations will be accepted and will fund scholarships for girls attending WISER.
Thursday, October 2nd: WISER hosts a Talk with Stephen Lewis from 6:30-8:00 pm in Sanford Institute Fleischmann Commons. United Nations Special Envoy and acclaimed author Stephen Lewis will speak about the burden of HIV on women and children in Kenya.
Friday, October 3rd: WISER hosts A Conversation with Dr. Rose Odhiambo at 4:00 pm in the Multicultural Center. Hear what WISER co-founder Odhiambo has to say about WISER.

Saturday, October 4th
The Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presents AKAs Walk to Cure Lupus from 9:00-11:00 am at Lake Lynn Park in Raleigh, NC. They are joining the Alliance for Lupus Research for this annual 5K walk. Registration begins at 9:00 am and the walk begins at 10:00 am. They will be tabling this week on the Bryan Center Plaza and in the Marketplace to raise money to donate. DukeEngage Information Sessions
Learn more about DukeEngage programs, including the application process and deadlines during these sessions. This week's sessions will be held on Tuesday, September 30th from 10:00-11:00 am, Wednesday, October 1st from 4:00-5:00 pm, and Thursday, October 2nd from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. All of these sessions will be held in McClendon Commons, located in the Undergraduate Admissions Office on Campus Drive.

Greek Week 2008
Come out and celebrate Greek life at Duke with the following events:
Monday, September 28th: Eat on campus at Armadillo Grill and McDonalds and help raise money for Habitat for Humanity. A percentage of the profits will go straight to the organization.
Tuesday, September 29th: Eat at Noodles & Company from 5:00-9:00 pm, mention the fundraiser, and have 25% of the profits go directly to Habitat for Humanity.
Wednesday, October 1st: Head to the Dillo at 8:30 pm for the Order of Omega Greek Bowl. Answer trivia questions and enjoy chips and queso.
Saturday, October 4th: Come and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. There will be two shifts: from 8:00 am-12:00 pm and from 1:00-4:30 pm. Meet at the West Campus bus stop to participate.

Wednesday, October 2nd
Take a break from your hectic schedule to enjoy some live jazz music at Jazz at the Mary Lou at 9:30 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. Local musicians, Duke music students, and special guest artists are brought together by John Brown, Director of the Duke Jazz Studies Program, for this weekly event. Light hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided with the option of purchasing late night fare and drinks in the Faculty Commons provided by Sage & Swift.

Friday, October 3rd
IMPACT presents IMPACT Game Night from 9:30 pm-12:00 am in Bell Tower 1st Floor Media Room. Join IMPACT for some of your favorite board and card games including Taboo, Apples to Apples, and Spades. Enjoy some free snacks and treats and good times at this event. 

Saturday, October 4th
Duke University Union (DUU) presents Joe College Day 2008 from 3:00-11:00 pm on Main Quad on West Campus. Ready yourselves for a free daylong affair that includes music, food, arts and crafts, and tie-dying. Featured artists include Shwayze, White Rabbits, The Brew, Kooley High, and The Sammies. Friday, October 3rd
The International Association presents Food Fest 2008 from 4:00-7:00 pm on the Bryan Center Plaza. Join the International Association for this cultural extravaganza. Many student groups will be representing their countries with a spectacular variety of cuisine and performances from around the world. This is your chance to enjoy free international food and get one of 400 free t-shirts. There will be live music and performances in addition to a Super Hott Wing Eating Contest sponsored by Chai's. Donations (on Flex) are welcome.
