Academic Events
Leadership Roundtable Application Deadline
Are you a freshman who wants to cultivate your leadership skills? If so, you should consider applying to the Leadership Roundtable, a semester-long, five-part series involving freshmen and Duke faculty and administrators. Applications are due Tuesday, January 27th. Applications can be found at http://osaf.studentaffairs.duke.edu/leadership/leadership_roundtable/index.html.

Commencement 2009 Speakers
Are you a senior interested in speaking at graduation this year? If so, consider writing a speech lasting 5-7 minutes and sending it to specialevents@duke.edu. Submissions are due by March 5th.

Friday, January 23rd
The Multicultural Center presents "Black News Media and the Privatization of Public Space" at 12:00 pm in the Multicultural Center in the Bryan Center. Glen Ford, executive director of Black Agenda Report, will discuss the privatization of black political life and corporate media's impact on the black community.

El Kilombo Social Center presents "Gentrification and the Struggle Against It" at 7:00 pm at El Kilombo. This panel event will discuss the process of gentrification in city development and its connection with the education system. Career Opportunities
SEO Deadline for SEO Internships
Applications for SEO internships are due by Saturday, January 31st. The application can be accessed at http://www.seo-usa.org/career/index.aspx. SEO enables undergraduate sophomores and juniors of color to get internships in finance and philanthropy. Send questions to Shannon Nelson at sjn6@duke.edu.

Wednesday, January 21st
The Career Center presents the Diversity Networking Dinner at 7:00 pm in the Von Canon rooms in the Bryan Center. This event is only for those students who have registered for the event. Make sure to arrive early to mingle with employers.

Thursday, January 22nd
The Career Center presents a Career and Summer Opportunities Fair from 10:00 am-3:00 pm in the Bryan Center. Employer representatives from a variety of job sectors will be present recruiting for full-time jobs and internships. Don't forget to bring copies of your resume.

Friday, January 23rd
The Career Center presents a Nonprofit and Government Fair from 12:00-3:00 pm in the Bryan Center. There will be a variety of organizations and employers within the public service and nonprofit sector present at this event.  Don't forget your resume.

Community Service Opportunities
Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Activities
A Martin Luther King Jr. Candlelight Vigil will take place on Tuesday, January 20th at 5:00 pm at Durham Regional Hospital. 

A MLK Million Meals Service Event will take place on Wednesday, January 21st from 5:00-6:00 pm at North Carolina Central University. Serve the community by assembling meals to be sent to people suffering from severe hunger around the world.  There will be two shifts starting at 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Meet in front of the Chapel for free transportation. For more information, please call 919.684.4377.

"MLK to Black in America" with CNN's Soledad O'Brien will take place on Thursday, January 22nd from 7:00-9:00 pm in Griffith Theater. O'Brien will show clips of this summer's "Black in America" documentary and discuss several issues facing the black community.

SNMA is hosting its Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet from 6:30-9:30 pm at the Durham Hilton. This event is only for those who have already reserved their spot and purchased their ticket. Contact Opemipo Johnson at 404.668.3157.

Saturday, January 24th
Future is Now (FIN) will be having an interest meeting at 3:00 pm in the Mary Lou. This will be your chance to learn about FIN and about participating during the spring semester.

Pick up your FREE copy of Duke's yearbook from last year if you forgot yours from Tuesday, January 20th-Friday, January 23rd from 12:00-6:00 pm in the Bryan Center between the Post Office and McDonalds. Remember to bring you Duke Card to pick up yearbooks. 
 
Saturday, January 24th
The Lambda Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated presents Rhapsody in Red: A Night of Egyptian Elegance Charity Ball at 7:00 pm in CIEMAS (Fitzpatrick Center in the Engineering Quad/Science Drive). Enjoy an elegant evening of entertainment, dinner, and dancing. Tickets can be purchased for $38 (food points can be used) on the BC Plaza and in the Marketplace. Proceeds will go towards the American Red Cross International Relief Fund.

Watch Duke's newest unaffiliated co-ed step squad at the Precision Step Show from 7:00-9:00 pm in Page Auditorium. Teams from high schools, the community, and area churches have been invited to perform. Among performers includes a team that has been featured on BET's 106 & Park and will be performing at Obama's inauguration celebration. Don't miss this hard-stomping, loud-clapping, high-intensity step extravaganza. Make sure to bring you Duke ID's for a free ticket at the door.

Cultural Events
Superman!
Hoof 'n' Horn's production of Superman! is entering its final week. The play can be seen on Thursday, January 22nd and Friday, January 23rd at 8:00 pm and on Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm. All performances take place in Shaefer Theater in the Bryan Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office.

Tuesday, January 20th
Duke Men's Basketball plays N.C. State at 7:00 pm at Cameron Indoor.

Saturday, January 24th
