BSA Announcements
The Black Student Alliance would like to thank everyone who attended 007: On a Mission for Darfur this past Friday. We hope that you had a great time and will continue to help increase awareness about the conflict in Sudan.

The Public Affairs committee in collaboration with Duke Democrats, Duke Political Union, Duke Students for Barack Obama, and Duke NAACP will be having a Voter Registration Drive this week (September 24 - 28) on the BC Plaza from 11 am - 4 pm and in the Marketplace from 6 pm - 8 pm. Register to vote in North Carolina and learn about political parties and political participation as a Duke Student!

Campus Announcements
Duke Performances presents Following Monk: Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the N.C. Legend's Birthday. This six-week celebration honors what would have been Thelonious Monk's 90th birthday (October 10). From mid-September through October, artists from all over America will descend on Durham, recalling the visionary composer's influence and unveiling music and performaces that Monk's innovations have inspired. Duke's only Black literary and arts journal, Prometheus Black, is now accepting submissions of poetry, short fiction, photography, and essays on Black culture. Please send your submissions to tsj5@duke.edu or drop them off at the Mary Lou Williams Center. Prometheus Black will be accepting submissions until Monday, October 29th.

Sign up for a personalized career advising session with Dr. Emma Rasiel, a former bond options trader at Goldman Sachs. These sessions will run until October 30th, on Tuesdays (9:00 am to 9:45 am) and Fridays (10:00 am to 10:45 am). To sign up for these individual sessions, log into E-Recruiting, search for the event entitled "office hours" in the event calendar, and sign up for the event on the day and time that works best for your schedule.

The Diversity Leadership Power Conference will be hosting an event in Raleigh this Thursday, September 27th. Diversity Leadership Power Conferences provide upcoming graduates (undergrads, post-grad students) and alumni with an opportunity to meet and establish relationships with recruiters from some of America's leading companies, prominent alumni living in the area and with fellow students attending the event. Focusing on the power of networking and diversity in the workplace, each DLPC event features a panel discussion that explores what attending companies are doing to ensure their workforce reflects the racial, ethnic and gender composition of America. Informal Program on Law School Admissions at 4:00 pm in the Breedlove Conference Room, Perkins Library. This event is sponsored by Bench and Bar and the Pre-law Advising Center. Dean Andrew Cornblatt from Georgetown University Law Center will present.

Novelist Yvette Christiansë presents a reading from her novel, Uncofessed at 4:30 pm in the Rare Book Room, Perkins Library. Yvette Christiansë is Associate Professosr of English and Comparative Literature at Fordham University and is a finalist for the 2007 Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for a Distinguished First Book of Fiction. She will also conduct a pair of creative writing workshops for Duke undergraduate students. Mouths to Feed: Religious Views on Global Hunger at 6:00 pm at the Freeman Center. Sponsored by the Interfaith Dialogue Project, come join people of various religious groups for a presentation and discussion on global hunger. All donations go to Duke Nourish. Dinner will be served at about 7:15 pm.

The Multicultural Center's "Identities in Movement" series presents dinner and film showing of "The Take" at 5:30 pm in the Muliticultural Center, Bryan Center. In the wake of Argentina's dramatic economic collapse in 2001, Latin America's most prosperous middle class finds itself in a ghost town of abandoned factories and mass unemployment. Mock Law School Admissions Panel at 7:00 pm in the Sociology/Psychology Building, Room 130. Sponsored by Bench and Bar and the Pre-law Advising Office, Admissions officers from the University of Chicago, University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Virginia will conduct a mock admissions panel that will show what really goes on in these sessions!

On the Reel: Black Love & Relationships Film Series presents "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" at 7:30 pm in the Mary Lou Williams Center. This series is being held in collaboration with WOMENST150S/AAAS199S - Black Love: Romantic Relationships and the African American Experience taught by Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes. A brief discussion may follow the viewing. Open to All! Popcorn Provided!

Wednesday, September 26
Jazz at the Mary Lou at 9:30 pm in the Julian Abele Hall, Mary Lou Williams Center. Enjoy live performances by local musicians as well as Duke music students, with special guest artists all brought together by John Brown, Director of the Duke Jazz Studies Program. Light hors d'oeuvres and liquid refreshment will be provided with the option to enjoy late night fare and drinks in the Faculty Commons provided by Sage & Swift.

Thursday, September 27
NasheRevolution at 9: 00 pm at the Nasher Museum of Art. Sponsored by the Nasher Student Advisory Board, come out for live entertainment and free hors d'oevres. Sharp attire is requested. Red and black would be nice but is not required.

Friday, September 28
Art-n-Soul Night at 9:00 pm in the Julian Abele Hall. Sponsored by the Mary Lou Williams Center, neo-soul, spoken word, and visual artists will be featured. Please contact the MLWC or check the website for more details.
